Having a meal at the Taiwan Noodle House can be quite a disconcerting experience. Hanging overhead are about 400 porcelain bowls, which Lee Hsuheng of Studio Golucci International Design says, is meant to “arouse people’s childhood memories of Taiwanese style beef noodles”.

The design takes one’s reminiscence of the past and gives it a modern, irreverant spin.

The single large dining room encourages customers to socialise and invites a convivial atmosphere typical of such establishments – a mood enhanced by the abundance of large porcelain bowls (specially sourced from Jingdezhen, China), chopsticks and visible hot steam. The lines, however, are kept minimalistic and clean. Walls are wrapped in oak panelling while dark marble is used to line the stairs.
