The Bird Apartment
nendo has designed a way for us to get up close with our winged friends – all 78 of them.
Bird watching is a pastime that's pursued with the utmost zeal in many parts of Asia. But now, instead of observing them from afar, one can have the pleasure of visiting them in their own home.
nendo has designed a bird tree house for the Ando Momofuku Center, a facility located in a forest in Komoro City, Japan that devotes itself to promoting and increasing access to nature-based activities.
The Bird Apartment is essentially a collective housing for many birds and one human visitor. On one side, the tree house has entrances to 78 nest spaces for birds, on the other lies an entrance just large enough or one person to enter through.
